In addition, Malaysias economy has successfully narrowed the gap of income disparity between Bumiputera and other races. Other than that, since 1989, 8% of consistent economic growth was recorded. 9.2% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew in 1995. During the first quarter of 1996, the growth rate falls to 8%. In the middle of 1997, Malaysia have seriously been attack by tremendous drop of currency that give impact on countrys growth of exportation helps Malaysia recover from recession period. Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad during his career as Prime Minister announced the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) to transform the economic from a production-based economy to a knowledge-based economy (K-economy). Thus, Malaysia undergoes globalization due to the economic expansion although received the recession period and successfully recovered. In Malaysia, prime minister should be a member and have the self-assured of House of Representatives. Parliamentary democracy is used in Malaysia to attain the globalization in developing the country with the federal constitutional monarchy. In operating the government, prime minister must be highly responsible to make the political environment in Malaysia to be stable. Due to the political stable, Malaysia has made a good relationship with United States and Europe even in the Asian region, South Korea, China, and Japan. Government in Malaysia, encourage foreigns investment in manufacturing industries. Thus, nations can get income as an employee to the industries. Since Malaysia gained its independence, our nations have made globalization in political. Political has successfully lower down the poverty in the rural area. Rural development was taken placed since 1965 where budgets were largest allocated to the rural area. Hence, political that are stable is important in globalization o f a country. Educational system in Malaysia has undergoes many changes of reviews and curricular activities to gain high right mentality and good attitudes of students. In order to achieve that, professors, lecturers, and teachers were recommended to find alternative to achieve this goal. Family, entertainment media, government political, and communities play an important role to mould the competitive, good moral attitudes, and more independent students. Malaysia government have make strategies on educational system to support Bumiputera to become an intellectual person. Government produced Maktab Rendah Sains MARA (MRSM), universities of science and technology based, and sponsorship for bright students. Furthermore, developing technologies is also one of the Malaysia aims. This aims has contribute the increase of foreigners investment. Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC) is providing capital to Malaysian and foreign companies that are interested in investing in Malaysia. So, educ ational and developing technologies are the aspects of social globalization. Malaysia is comprises of West and East Malaysia. West Malaysia can also be known as Peninsular Malaysia consists of 60% of Malay, 25% of Chinese, and 10% of Indian population. Likewise, East Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak consist of Chinese, and Ibans. Islam is the national religion of Malaysia because nearly all Malays are Muslims. Bahasa Malaysia (Malay) is the official language of this country. But in the legal system, English language is used as communication. Mandarin, Tamil and other regional ethnics languages also used by nations of Malaysia. Although Malaysia has many cultures, all the races live in harmony and peaceful among each other. This indicator makes other countries interested in investing in Malaysia. Besides, the using of English language in trading makes it easier to foreign investment. Calling Home :: Literary Analysis, Jean Brandt

In â€Å"Calling Home†, by Jean Brandt and â€Å"An American Childhood† by Annie Dillard, both girls are confronted with their sense of conscience and of right and wrong. In the process, both girls experience memorable lessons as a consequence of the decisions they make. In â€Å"Calling Home†, thirteen year old Jean realizes that her actions not only affect her but more importantly, her loved ones, when she is caught shoplifting and arrested during a Christmas shopping trip with her siblings and grandmother. In â€Å"An American Childhood†, seven year old Annie realizes that adults and their feelings are valid and that they can be just as vulnerable and full of tenacity as a child after she and her friend find themselves being chased by a man who is none too amused at being a target of their snowball throwing antics. In both stories, Annie and Jean are smug in their sense of power and control. Both girls exhibit a general lack of respect for authority by justifying their actions and displaying a false sense of entitlement to pursue and attain whatever they wish, as if ordinary rules do not apply to them. Both girls actions are based on power and acknowledgement amongst their peers: In â€Å"Calling Home†, the author explains: â€Å"Snoopy was the latest. If you owned anything with the Peanuts on it, you were â€Å"in†Ã¢â‚¬  (19). When she steals the pin, Jean feels proud that she’s outsmarted everybody and that what she has done has gone undetected. Once confronted, Jean’s false sense of security and disbelief is reflected in the following statements: â€Å"Where did this man come from? How did he know? I was so sure no one had seen me†¦I couldn’t believe what he was saying† (Brandt 20). In â€Å"An American Childhood†, Annie is proud of her â€Å"boys arm† and of being the only girl accepted by a group of older boys. She exudes confidence in participating with her friends. The author explains: â€Å"It was all or nothing...Your fate and your team’s score depended on your concentration and courage. Not hing girls did could compare with it† (Dillard 22). In contrast to Jean’s dismay, Annie excitedly describes the surprise of being pursued and the anticipation of being reprimanded: â€Å"It was an immense discovery, pounding into my hot head with every sliding, joyous step, that this ordinary adult evidently knew what I thought only children knew† (Dillard 23).

Once Husks Journey starts by sailing down the Mississippi River he eventually comes across an island where he meets Jim once again. As both characters have a common ground as to why they had ran away from their previous destinations, they decided to stick together and camp out for a couple of days. During this time, Houck pulled a childish prank on Jim which resulted in Jims leg swelling from a very poisonous snake bite.Even though Houck had caused Jim great pain, he decided to ignore it and â€Å"Judged he was all 55); however, he â€Å"slid out quiet and thrower the snakes Lear away amongst the bushes; for I warrant going to let Jim find out It was all my fault, not If I could help which shows that he had little remorse for his actions and had no means to apologize. Later in Chapter. 15, Houck and Jim are separated by fog while going down the river. Eventually Houck finds the boat and is reunited with a rather drowsy Jim. Once Jim awakens he immediately shows his sincerest happiness to Husk's survival. Unfortunately, for Jim, Husk's childish behavior brings him to say â€Å"Gone away? Why, what in the nation do you mean? I haunt been gone anywhere. Where would I go to? â€Å"(pig. 87). However, Jim knows it was no dream of his and figures out that Houck had been lying and teasing him the entire time. We know that Jim is extremely offended by Husk's behavior as he says â€Å"When I got all wore out wide work, en wide De call' door you, en went to sleep, my heart wiz broke bakes you wiz ISO', en I din' Kerrey no what become err me en De raff.En when I wake up en fine you back gal.', all safe en soon', De tears come en I could a got down on my knees en kiss' F foot Xi's so lie. Data truck dad is trash; en trash is what people is d ate data puts dirt on De head err dye Freon's en makes ‘me ashamed. â€Å"(pig. 9) meaning that he couldn't have been more worried when he had lost Houck and couldn't have been any happier when they were united, but could not understand why he would ever treat him in that way.Houck responds by saying â€Å"It made me feel so means I could almost kissed his foot to get him to take it back. â€Å"(pig. 89) and this is the first time he actually feels guilt for his actions towards Jim, so guilty in fact, that Houck brings himself to apologize. This is a revolutionary moment in the book as both a white man and a slave are on moral ground of respect and resembles how close these two characters have become throughout these chapters.

Children’s Literature II: Young Adult Literature Essay

47, written by Walter Mosley, is the story of a 14 year old slave who lives on a cotton plantation in Georgia. 47 has lived in the house and barn all his life, thus giving him a clouded vision of what slave life is really like. One day he is relocated to the slave chambers where his universe is turned upside down. 47 meets a presumably runaway slave, named Tall John who in all reality is an extraterrestrial. Through their friendship Tall John teaches 47 all about freedom and his world. Through the text we are given a chance to find a new experience with the world of slave history, African American folklore, and science fiction. After researching articles the main focus of discussion is the unique combining of the slave narrative with the science fiction. Slavery is still a very touchy subject. Whites do not want to relive the horrid treatment that they put upon the slaves and slaves do not want to read and learn about the harm done to their ancestors. Walter Mosley chose to write this story to convey the story of slavery from a first person narrative but also to put a spin on it so that it wouldn’t be so depressing. The text has some amazing, out of this world gadgets and healing devices but I am even more compelled to think that the truth it brings to light is an even more powerful thing. As Hazel Rochman stated I have to fully agree, â€Å"slavery is the most unbelievable part of this whole story†. In â€Å"Conversations with Walter Mosley† by Owen Edward Brady we read that Walter Mosley’s novels are filled with â€Å"folk archetypes†. In 47 we are able to see the full l ist of archetypes being fulfilled. The archetypal seeker could be Tall John leaving his planet to come to earth to find 47. It could also be 47 leaving the big house to end up in the slave quarters. The Junex verses the Senex could be the conflict between Pritchard and 47. The Orphan could be Tall John, 47, 84’s children, or any other slaves that were torn away from their families. The Caregiver could be Mama Flore, Mud Albert, or Champ Noland. The Sage in the text is Tall John from beyond Africa. Friends are Tall John and 47. Lovers are Tall John and 84, Mama Flore and Mud Albert, 47’s parents. Warriors and Heroes are Mama Flore, Mud Albert, and Champ Noland. Villains are Mr. Stewart, Pike, and Calash. Rulers are portrayed to be Mr. Tobias and the whites. The Trickster in 47 is Tall John. He uses many different tricks be them for good or bad. The pros and cons of 47 are hard to distinguish. If you were to use this text in a secondary setting you would need to get the administrator’s and parent’s permission. The cons of using this text in a secondary setting are that the text has some brutal hardships that the slaves had to endure. Language, rape, torture, kidnapping, and slavery are some of the cons that might not be appropriate for a less mature audience. The pros of the text are astounding. The story points out so many truths about slavery, and the pains that it places upon each generation. 47 takes a huge stance against slavery and thus takes a stand against racial prejudices. â€Å"Neither master nor nigger be† are powerful words that ring true for 47, finally. 20 Minute Writing Assignment – Think about Tall John’s â€Å"yellow bag of tricks† and think back through the text. Possible Solutions to Self-Harm

[Enter title here] A large number of people in western society have found self-mutilation as a means to â€Å"escape† from the problem’s haunting their everyday life. The act of cutting oneself has been proven to release chemical compounds into the body to momentarily clear the mind of such problems. These compounds, known as endorphins, relieve the body of whatever tension and stress that is undergone in the individual’s life.Harming one’s self is a serious problem that must be assessed and treated in an appropriate manner that will not only stop the act within the individual but also remove the source of such trauma in their life. The cause of such actions has been known to come in from a large multitude of personal problems. Problems such as an unsuitable household, difficulties within a person’s social background, or even the image they see within themselves. Professor Keith Hawton oversaw a study taken over the amount of adolescents who admitte d to inflicting harm upon themselves.His survey took place in forty-one schools involving 6,020 subjects aged fifteen to sixteen. The results were that â€Å"398 (6. 8%) participants reported an act of deliberate self harm in the past year† (Hawton 2002). According to the results, more females admitted to this act than males. Of those females who were accountable to deliberate self-harm, they confessed the causes being their â€Å"friends, self harm by family members, drug misuse, depression, anxiety, impulsivity, and low self esteem† (Hawton 2002).The factors found within the males were drug use, suicidal behavior found within their friends and family, and low self-esteem. Patricia and Peter Adler discuss the effects that undergone by the individual through the expectations of those around that person. In their writing, â€Å"The Glorified Self† the Adlers present how a society creates an image of those within it and the pressure placed upon those people create an inner conflict â€Å"between their desire for recognition, flattery, and importance and the inclination to keep feeding this self-affirming element† (Adler 195).As society continues to surround the individual, the pressure increases as the person begins to take on a role which they may not feel is best suited for them, yet must be upheld in order to feel better accepted within their society. Such expectations are found in those closest to that person: parents, siblings, friends or anyone who could affect that person’s life. These expectations can create a dilemma within the individual, whether they wish to be who they want or who they are required to be.Through the burden of deciding on they wish to become, the troubled person begins to turn away from the sources of their problems and look for a quick escape. That escape varies among the individual experiencing such complications in their life, anything from substance abuse to physically abusing their own body. The human body finds whatever means necessary in order to cope with the difficulties presented in their life. This coping mechanism is the brain’s way of releasing the stress that builds up over time from dealing with whatever obstacles that are laid out before the person.In order to stop such actions taking place, the source of the problem(s) must then be removed, or tuned down enough to no longer give the desire for the person to find a momentary escape. Removing all sources of responsibilities in a person’s life is nearly impossible. Instead of removing the source of the problem, a more possible solution is to show the people undergoing such problems that they aren’t alone in their responsibilities. Giving out a hand to those in need will show them that they don’t need to hold their problems to themselves.Encourage a troubled individual to express their fears, problems, and concerns in hopes that in doing so, that person may then be able to realize that a s tough as things may be, they are never alone. Another way to relieve stress in a positive manner is meditation. True this seems like it won’t do much, but â€Å"that small amount of peace in your day can help you deal with or even release stress† (Alvarez 2012).
