In this document, a review of the literature on open innovation is presented followed by experience of the author of this paper, who participated in a project at openIDEO, an open innovation platform. The term Open Innovation was first introduced by Chesbrough who indicated that open innovation "is a paradigm shift in approach of organizations that need to consider external and internal ideas along with external and internal path to develop a collaborative approach and advance knowledge in the field by introducing practical and innovative approaches to problem solving" (Chesbrough, 2003, p. 17). Open innovation creates a mutually beneficial relationship since both the firm that sponsors open innovation projects and individuals or smaller firms that participate, gain through generation of designs, and present ideas that meet the requirements (Chesbrough, and Eichenholz, 2013). Open innovation is different from outsourcing where existing products are given out on contractual manufacturing and vendors must produce the components as per specifications (Terwiesch, 2008). In open innovation forum, the administrator presents a problem and participants must offer their answers. A diversi ty of opinions is needed and the firm may examine several alternatives from among the solutions offered, pick up an idea that appears most suitable, and place the selected idea for refinement (Levine and Prietula, 2013). While open innovation is a good concept, certain problems are apparent. Some of the main problems are legal issues and the lack of privacy and confidentiality in the forum. Another problem is that requirements for the project and details of the selected design are available for even rival firms.

Countertrade :: essays research papers
CounterTrade Paper Countertrade is a trade between two countries by which goods are exchanged for other goods rather than for hard currency. Countertrade is often the solution for exporters that may not be able to be paid in his or her home currency and according to the text few exporters would desire payment in a currency that is not convertible. "Sometimes both parties are happy with the goods they receive, other times one country will liquidate the received asset, ultimately receiving cash in the deal. This is also referred to as "using barter to complete a trade." (www.investopedia.com, 2004) An example of countertrade is, the former Soviet Union would often countertrade, agreeing to trade, say, Soviet oil for another country's vehicles. After researching this subject, I have learned that countertrade is an umbrella term covering a wide range of commercial mechanisms for reciprocal trade. Reciprocal trading (two-sided trading, trade in return) occurs when the trade customers is also a supplier. The reciprocal trading arrangements may or may not be formally linked. In practice, reciprocal trade may strengthen an existing trading relationship, and may even create mutual dependencies, which may create new trade relationship. Barter is probably the oldest and best known example of countertrading, however others, such as offset, buyback, tolling and switch trading, have also evolved to meet the requirements of a more sophisticated world economy. All of these generally involve the exchange of goods or services to finance purchases, rather than using cash alone. "The importance of countertrade as a trading tool has increased since early 1970s -especially in markets where there is a shortage of foreign exchange and countertrade may be the only effective marketing mechanism for doing business." (www.barternews.com, 2003) "One of the unique risks of countertrade transactions is that companies often find themselves handling products with which they are not familiar. This is probably the greatest risk in a countertrade transaction." ((www.barternews.com, 2003) Approximately 130 out of 192 countries in the world require countertrade, one form or another, in their procurements. Many of them did so after having undertaken intensive and serious studies. Many global companies have dedicated in-house specialists dealing specifically with countertrade. Some 20% to 30% of world trade is countertrade. The annual global market size for countertrade is estimated to be between US$200 to US$500 billion. No one really knows what are the correct percentages are and how large the true market size is.

Calling Home :: Literary Analysis, Jean Brandt
In ââ¬Å"Calling Homeâ⬠, by Jean Brandt and ââ¬Å"An American Childhoodâ⬠by Annie Dillard, both girls are confronted with their sense of conscience and of right and wrong. In the process, both girls experience memorable lessons as a consequence of the decisions they make. In ââ¬Å"Calling Homeâ⬠, thirteen year old Jean realizes that her actions not only affect her but more importantly, her loved ones, when she is caught shoplifting and arrested during a Christmas shopping trip with her siblings and grandmother. In ââ¬Å"An American Childhoodâ⬠, seven year old Annie realizes that adults and their feelings are valid and that they can be just as vulnerable and full of tenacity as a child after she and her friend find themselves being chased by a man who is none too amused at being a target of their snowball throwing antics. In both stories, Annie and Jean are smug in their sense of power and control. Both girls exhibit a general lack of respect for authority by justifying their actions and displaying a false sense of entitlement to pursue and attain whatever they wish, as if ordinary rules do not apply to them. Both girls actions are based on power and acknowledgement amongst their peers: In ââ¬Å"Calling Homeâ⬠, the author explains: ââ¬Å"Snoopy was the latest. If you owned anything with the Peanuts on it, you were ââ¬Å"inâ⬠â⬠(19). When she steals the pin, Jean feels proud that sheââ¬â¢s outsmarted everybody and that what she has done has gone undetected. Once confronted, Jeanââ¬â¢s false sense of security and disbelief is reflected in the following statements: ââ¬Å"Where did this man come from? How did he know? I was so sure no one had seen meâ⬠¦I couldnââ¬â¢t believe what he was sayingâ⬠(Brandt 20). In ââ¬Å"An American Childhoodâ⬠, Annie is proud of her ââ¬Å"boys armâ⬠and of being the only girl accepted by a group of older boys. She exudes confidence in participating with her friends. The author explains: ââ¬Å"It was all or nothing...Your fate and your teamââ¬â¢s score depended on your concentration and courage. Not hing girls did could compare with itâ⬠(Dillard 22). In contrast to Jeanââ¬â¢s dismay, Annie excitedly describes the surprise of being pursued and the anticipation of being reprimanded: ââ¬Å"It was an immense discovery, pounding into my hot head with every sliding, joyous step, that this ordinary adult evidently knew what I thought only children knewâ⬠(Dillard 23).
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, Husk's relationship with Jim becomes Increasingly close and respected as these chapters unwind. In the beginning of the book, both Houck and Jim are only briefly acquitted due to Jim working for Miss Watson as a slave, who happens to be Husks legal guardian at the time. Even though both characters live under the same roof, neither of them pay much attention to one another due to the fact that slaves in the asses, degraded by the term ââ¬Å"naggersâ⬠, would not be accepted into the white community as anything ore.However, despite Houck barely knowing him, he had noticed ââ¬Å"Miss Watson big Niger, named Jimâ⬠(pig. 6) was physically large, very superstitious but capable of interpreting signs that could provide useful Information. We know this since Houck mentions that ââ¬Å"Jim, had a hair-ball as big as your fist, which had been took out of the fourth stomach of an ox, and he used to do magic with It. He said there was a split Inside of It, and It endowed everything. So I went to him that night and told him pap was here again, for I found his tracks In the snow.What I wanted to know, was, what e was going to do, and was he going to stay? ââ¬Å". Once Husks Journey starts by sailing down the Mississippi River he eventually comes across an island where he meets Jim once again. As both characters have a common ground as to why they had ran away from their previous destinations, they decided to stick together and camp out for a couple of days. During this time, Houck pulled a childish prank on Jim which resulted in Jims leg swelling from a very poisonous snake bite.Even though Houck had caused Jim great pain, he decided to ignore it and ââ¬Å"Judged he was all 55); however, he ââ¬Å"slid out quiet and thrower the snakes Lear away amongst the bushes; for I warrant going to let Jim find out It was all my fault, not If I could help which shows that he had little remorse for his actions and had no means to apologize. Later in Chapter. 15, Houck and Jim are separated by fog while going down the river. Eventually Houck finds the boat and is reunited with a rather drowsy Jim. Once Jim awakens he immediately shows his sincerest happiness to Husk's survival. Unfortunately, for Jim, Husk's childish behavior brings him to say ââ¬Å"Gone away? Why, what in the nation do you mean? I haunt been gone anywhere. Where would I go to? ââ¬Å"(pig. 87). However, Jim knows it was no dream of his and figures out that Houck had been lying and teasing him the entire time. We know that Jim is extremely offended by Husk's behavior as he says ââ¬Å"When I got all wore out wide work, en wide De call' door you, en went to sleep, my heart wiz broke bakes you wiz ISO', en I din' Kerrey no what become err me en De raff.En when I wake up en fine you back gal.', all safe en soon', De tears come en I could a got down on my knees en kiss' F foot Xi's so lie. Data truck dad is trash; en trash is what people is d ate data puts dirt on De head err dye Freon's en makes ââ¬Ëme ashamed. ââ¬Å"(pig. 9) meaning that he couldn't have been more worried when he had lost Houck and couldn't have been any happier when they were united, but could not understand why he would ever treat him in that way.Houck responds by saying ââ¬Å"It made me feel so means I could almost kissed his foot to get him to take it back. ââ¬Å"(pig. 89) and this is the first time he actually feels guilt for his actions towards Jim, so guilty in fact, that Houck brings himself to apologize. This is a revolutionary moment in the book as both a white man and a slave are on moral ground of respect and resembles how close these two characters have become throughout these chapters.
